Rising Stars in Physics

2022 Rising Stars in Physics Workshop

The Department of Physics at Princeton invites top early career women in physics and astronomy who are interested in careers in academia to apply to the Rising Stars in Physics Workshop to be held on the Princeton University campus.

This workshop will bring the next generation of physics academic leaders together for two days of scientific discussions and informal sessions aimed at navigating the early stages of the academic career. In addition to research presentations, we will hold panel discussions with Princeton and Invited faculty on issues relevant to academic careers, have opportunities for informal networking with faculty members at Princeton, and set aside time for the participants to get to know each other and form connections that will hopefully persist through time.

An eligible applicant must be within approximately one year of graduating with her PhD or have obtained her PhD no earlier than 2014.

Selection Criteria

A group of 20-25 outstanding candidates will be selected from all applications submitted.  Preference will be given to candidates who are considering applying for faculty positions in the fall of 2022.

We do not discriminate persons from participation on the basis of race, national origin, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, or disability.

Accommodations and Travel

Princeton will cover meals and shared accommodations for up to three nights, and reimburse up to $600 in travel expenses (air, rail). All workshop accommodations/venues/facilities are fully accessible.

The 2022 Rising Stars in Physics Workshop is made possible with the support of the Heising-Simons Foundation, as one of a series of workshops initiated and co-sponsored by MIT.

My Princeton colleagues and I are excited to host the 2022 Rising Stars in Physics Workshop this Fall. We look forward to welcoming you and other future academic leaders for two days of intense discussions and lively conversations.  We anticipate that, like past Rising Stars workshops, the meeting will be a unique opportunity to forge lasting new connections with an outstanding group of peers and mentors, and will be helpful to you as you navigate the upcoming opportunities and choices in your academic career. Enjoy your time here!
